Privacy
citydots is a small private project. It has no accounts, no ads and no tracking, and it sets no cookies. This page explains which data is processed when you use it.
When you open the site
The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. To deliver it, Cloudflare's servers process the technical data that every web request contains: your IP address, the time, the requested file and details your browser sends, such as its type. The operator of citydots does not evaluate this data.
Map
The map is drawn from data that your browser loads directly from OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org). This transmits your IP address to that service. According to OpenFreeMap, it uses no cookies and keeps no user database.
Stored in your browser
Your best scores per level and your choice of a light or dark map are saved in your browser's local storage. They stay on your device. You can remove them at any time by clearing the site data in your browser settings.
Sync between devices (optional)
Nothing in this section applies unless you turn on “Sync across devices”. If you do, your best scores (level, cities correct, cities asked and time) are stored on Cloudflare's servers under a random 12-character code, and that code is saved in your browser. No name, e-mail address or account is involved.
- Anyone who knows the code can read and overwrite these scores, so keep it to yourself.
- “Unlink this device” stops syncing on that device. Its scores stay on it.
- A code that has not been written to for two years is deleted automatically, together with its scores.
- The scores are not linked to a person, so they cannot be looked up or deleted on request.
Fonts
The font is part of the site itself and is not loaded from another provider.
